Having attended a music school in the middle of nowhere of Western New York, most of my friends played in bands throughout college. But in the midst of pretentious college indie-rock exists Chromakid. Chromakid’s roots are in Fredonia, NY but the trio of ultra-talented girls now resides in Brooklyn, where they will no doubt take over. Tara describes their transition as such: “Starting Chromakid in Fredonia was brilliant because it gave us the discipline and space to come together and work on music. It helped to develop a foundation, a relationship, a friendship, musicianship, and the natural and amazing balance between the three of us. There’s just so much inspiration daily, it’s opening up my brain in a beautiful way both musically and artistically, one of the most important things I keep in my mind daily is to not become jaded by the city. There are a lot of musicians who work out of the city that lose their individuality in their music because living here can just wear you down. Most of all it’s made me realize how much I love playing.” Their songs take you into another dimension of existence, an ethereal space with gentle vocal lines that seem utterly genuine. “I had this idea that when I moved here, I would have all these clear-sighted goals musically, but in fact the opposite has happened,” described Suzanne, “I have fallen desperately in love with my art form and it is forcing me to shed any external idea of success in a way that defines for me what truly matters as an artist. Now this is all a reflection of what is going on inside of us. That’s what makes it real and so magical, an idea that the music inside and that the outside world and our experiences just draw it all out”

“There is so much sound in the city and it infiltrates into what comes out of me musically. The natural flow of the city goes right into the rhythms and phrases of our songs”
